Degree Equivalency in the UAE: What MOE Approval Means for Your Job

You've accepted a job offer in the UAE, your diploma is translated, and everything feels ready, until HR asks for your "equivalency certificate," and you realize translation was only step one.

A certified translation makes your diploma legible to UAE authorities. Degree equivalency, issued by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and often processed through the Quadra Bay platform, is a separate, official confirmation that your qualification corresponds to a recognized level of education under the UAE system. Many employers, and MOHRE itself for certain job categories and visa types, require this equivalency before an employment contract can be finalized.

Who typically needs it

• Employees whose job offer or visa category requires a degree-holder classification
• Professionals in regulated fields (education, healthcare, engineering, and others) where credential verification is mandatory
• Anyone whose employer specifically requests an MOE equivalency certificate as part of onboarding

What the process involves

1. Certified translation of your original degree certificate and transcript.
2. Attestation of the original documents (see our guide to MOFA attestation for how that chain works).
3. Submission to MOE / Quadra Bay for equivalency review.
4. Issuance of the equivalency certificate, which you then provide to MOHRE or your employer.

Processing times vary by country of issuance and field of study, since some qualifications require additional verification with the issuing institution. Starting the translation and attestation steps early, ideally as soon as your offer is confirmed, avoids equivalency becoming the bottleneck that delays your start date.

Employers sometimes ask for "an attested, translated degree" when what they actually need for MOHRE purposes is the MOE equivalency certificate itself.
